Qantas Group Acquires Cobham Australia
In 2020, Qantas Group acquired Cobham Aviation Services Australia, a regional domestic airline, and its fleet of 20 B717-200 aircraft. Qantas Group's subsidiary, QantasLink, had been operating the B717-200s for 15 years through a wet-leasing contract with Cobham. QantasLink Chief Executive John Gissing stated that the acquisition would provide more certainty for the future, especially in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic, and allow them to service various segments of the domestic market, including regional routes and capital cities.
The transaction resulted in Qantas Group wholly owning and operating the B717-200 aircraft in-house, with Cobham Aviation Services Australia becoming a subsidiary of Qantas Group. Qantas emphasised that the change would be purely a back-office transition and would not impact customers. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Following the acquisition, Qantas Group received its first A220-300 aircraft from Airbus Canada, to be operated by Cobham Aviation Services Australia for regional routes around Australia. This marked the beginning of Qantas Group's order of 29 aircraft to work under the QantasLink brand.
The deal also affected a previous 10-year contract with National Jet Systems, although Cobham continued to operate four cargo jets for Qantas freight.

The company prioritises the safety, protection, and comfort of its passengers and employees and has outlined specific guidelines regarding smoking within the airport premises and during flights.
Smoking is strictly prohibited within the terminal building and on the tarmac. This policy ensures that passengers and employees are not exposed to second-hand cigarette smoke and creates a safer and healthier environment. During check-in, passengers must present valid photo identification, such as a driver's licence, employee ID, or passport. Children travelling with adults may need to provide additional identification, such as student ID, a Medicare card, or a birth certificate.
