The airport's history

Portland International Airport (PDX) is located within Portland's city limits, just south of the Columbia River in Multnomah County. The airport is 6 miles (10 kilometres) by air and 12 miles (19 kilometres) by highway northeast of downtown Portland.

The history of the airport dates back to the 1920s when the first airport in Portland, known as Swan Island Municipal Airport, was constructed.
