Washington Dulles International Airport
The airport is the fourth-largest in the US in terms of land area and is the busiest airport in the Washington–Baltimore metropolitan area. It is also the airport with the most international passenger traffic in the Mid-Atlantic outside the New York metropolitan area. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
The airport first opened in 1941 and was originally named Washington National Airport. Part of the original terminal is still in use today as Terminal 1, while the much larger Terminal 2 opened in 1997. In February 1998, President Bill Clinton signed legislation changing the airport's name to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, to honour the 40th president of the United States, who was in office from 1981 to 1989. The airport is located on the former site of the 18th and 19th-century Abingdon plantation, and a historical display of the restored remnants of two Abingdon buildings can be found near the south end of the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail station.
The airport has several lounges across its two terminals. Terminal 2 features three American Airlines Admirals Clubs, a Delta Sky Club, and a United Club. Terminal 1 houses a USO lounge for retired and active military members. An American Express Centurion Lounge can be found in National Hall by the B Gates, and the Capital One Landing lounge, a collaboration with chef José Andrés, is located in Terminal 2, Concourse D. The airport also features a variety of dining options, including CAVA, a fast-casual restaurant offering Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, and Ben's Chili Bowl, a Washington D.C. landmark known for its famous chilli and half-smokes.

Richmond International Airport
Over the years, Richmond International Airport has undergone significant growth and expansion. In the early 2000s, the airport saw a period of extensive growth, leading to a complete redesign. The original single-story terminal with 12 gates was transformed into a two-level terminal with 22 gates, including numerous non-jet bridge gates. Norfolk International Airport
The airport's name was changed from Norfolk Regional Airport to its current name. The airport has seen significant developments over the years, including the opening of a new general aviation facility, an air cargo terminal, and expanded parking facilities in the 1980s. In 1991, a new concourse extension was completed, adding 10 additional gates, along with a modern fire station and an FAA air traffic control tower.

Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport
The Peninsula Airport Commission (PAC), a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, owns and operates the airport. The airport was renamed Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport in September 1990, and a new terminal opened in late 1992. The PAC was established in 1946 by Virginia's General Assembly to determine a location and build a new airport for the cities of Newport News and Hampton.
Newport News–Williamsburg International Airport was served by four airlines as of early 1976, offering nonstop or direct flights without requiring a plane change. Allegheny Airlines, which operated out of Boston, Hartford, Philadelphia, and Providence, was one of these airlines, using McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 jets. Piedmont was the third airline, serving Atlanta, Columbus (Ohio), Florence (South Carolina), New Bern (North Carolina), Norfolk, Parkersburg (West Virginia), Richmond (Virginia), Roanoke (Virginia), and Washington DC National Airport with NAMC YS-11 turboprops. Finally, United Airlines served Atlanta, Chicago O'Hare Airport, Moline (Illinois), and Washington DC National Airport with Boeing 727-100 and Boeing 737-200 jets.
The airport has seen a significant decrease in passenger traffic since 2011, with an over 85% drop in annual passengers due to the loss of dominant air carrier AirTran in 2012 and competition from low-cost airlines at nearby airports. In 2019, the airport handled 431,077 passengers, while in 2023 that number dropped to 144,966. Newport News–Williamsburg International Airport is notable for being the first airport in the nation to undergo a sustainability project, incorporating green technology into all aspects of its operations.
