Kahului Airport has two intersecting runways. The airport's master plan includes extending the main runway (Runway 2-20) from 7,000 to 8,530 feet (2,600 m) by 2021. This extension would allow for operations with long-distance aircraft carrying a full load of fuel at maximum takeoff weight, enabling non-stop service to the Midwest, including cities like Chicago, Dallas, and Denver with Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The runway extension is expected to cost around \$104.3 million.
In addition to the main runway extension, a parallel runway will also be constructed, measuring 7,000 ft x 150 ft (2,134 m x 46 m) with a centerline separation of 2,500 feet (760 m).
