A Seamless Airport Experience With Digiyatra

DigiYatra is an initiative by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Digi Yatra Foundation that uses facial recognition technology to simplify the airport experience for flyers. The DigiYatra app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. To use DigiYatra, passengers must register using their phone number and link their Aadhaar credentials. They can then upload their boarding pass to the app and share it with the departure airport. At the airport, passengers can use facial recognition to enter the terminal, drop their luggage, and pass through the boarding gate, without the need for a physical boarding pass or identity card.

Register for Digi Yatra

DigiYatra is a mobile application introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to enhance the air travel experience within India. The service is currently available at three major airports: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi, Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. It is expected to be extended to other airports in the future, including Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada.

To register for Digi Yatra, follow these steps:

• Download the DigiYatra app from the Google Play Store or App Store on your Android or iOS device.
• Open the app and tap the "Get Started" button to initiate the registration process.
• Provide your mobile number and click "Register".
• You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on the registered mobile number. Submit the OTP.
• Tap the "Wallet" option at the bottom of the screen.
• Click on "Identity Credentials" and upload your Aadhaar-verified identity documents. At this time, the Digi Yatra app accepts only Aadhaar as it has been integrated, but other government-issued identity documents may be integrated in the future.
• Upload a selfie when prompted.
• Review and accept the terms and conditions to complete the registration process.

Please note that registration for Digi Yatra is a one-time process. You don't need to register again for each new trip. Simply add your new travel document and share your credentials before travelling.

Upload documents

With their documents uploaded, passengers can then proceed to the airport, where their identity will be verified through facial recognition technology.

Terminal entry

DigiYatra uses facial recognition technology to simplify terminal entry and security clearance at the airport.

• Download the official DigiYatra app by Digi Yatra Foundation from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the Apple App Store (for iOS).
• Register on the app using your phone number, which is linked to your Adhaar card. An OTP will be sent to your mobile number for verification.
• Link your Adhaar credentials using the Digi Locker.
• Upload your boarding pass on the DigiYatra app and share it with the departure airport. Ensure that your name on the flight ticket, Adhaar, and boarding pass are the same.
• Upon arriving at the airport, proceed to the designated DigiYatra entry gate (usually Gate no. 2A or Gate-2).
• At the gate, scan your bar-coded or mobile boarding pass.
• Look into the camera of the facial recognition system installed at the gate.
• After successful validation, the e-gate will automatically open to allow your entry into the terminal.

Please note that currently, the DigiYatra service is only available at specific terminals and gates, such as Terminal 3 or Gate-2, and for domestic departures. It is recommended to carry a physical boarding pass as a backup, as mobile boarding passes are also accepted at the DigiYatra entry points.

Security check

To use Digi Yatra for security checks, you must first download the official Digi Yatra app by Digi Yatra Foundation from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to register using your mobile number and OTP. You will then need to link your identity credentials using DigiLocker or Aadhaar and take a selfie picture when prompted, ensuring your picture is clear and has no obstructions.

After registering and uploading your selfie, you can proceed to the security check E-Gate at the airport. Here, you will need to look into the FVT Facial Verification Technology camera (face pod machine) installed on the E-Gate. The system will validate your ID and travel documents. Once validated, the E-Gate will open, and you can proceed with the normal security check procedures.
