History of power-related incidents
On November 14, 2024, an electrical breaker short occurred in Terminal A of the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, impacting nine out of the airport's 130 gates. Houston Airports deployed maintenance and operations teams to address the issue, and customer service representatives worked to transfer passengers and flights to unaffected gates. The airport advised travellers to stay in communication with their airlines as they worked to resolve the issue.
Prior to this, on February 1, 1975, a Douglas DC-3 N15HC aircraft operated by Horizon Properties crashed during its approach to the airport. The port wing collided with an electricity pylon, resulting in the deaths of two crew members and three passengers out of 16 occupants. On August 23, 1990, a Grumman Gulfstream I aircraft experienced a power loss in one of its engines after taking off from the airport. This resulted in three fatalities as the aircraft crashed while attempting to regain altitude en route to New Orleans International Airport.
