Global Entry allows pre-approved, low-risk travellers expedited clearance at over 50 US airports when arriving in the US after travelling abroad. It is available for travel by air, land and sea. Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck perks and costs $120 for a five-year membership. The application process is shorter, taking 4 to 6 months.

SENTRI is a program designed to facilitate expedited pedestrian or vehicle entry into the US from Canada or Mexico. It is provided by Customs & Border Protection (CBP) to authorised, low-risk travellers after arrival at designated ports of entry, such as seaports or international US airports. It does not cover travel by sea. A SENTRI pass is valid for five years and costs $120 for adults and free for minors under 18. SENTRI has a longer application processing time.

Global Entry and SENTRI are becoming increasingly similar. SENTRI cardholders can use Global Entry kiosks once the US Customs and Border Protection has fingerprints and document information on file. Similarly, Global Entry members can use their card through SENTRI lanes. However, you cannot use a Global Entry card to travel through NEXUS lanes when entering Canada.

In summary, if you regularly travel by car to Mexico or Canada, SENTRI may be a good option. If you travel internationally and by air, land or sea, Global Entry may be more suitable.
