Russ McDonald Field
The history of the airport dates back to 1946 when the city of Heber acquired land for an airport but lacked the funds to develop it. In 1947, a group of local residents, including Russell McDonald, formed the Heber Valley Flying Service, Inc. and acquired a loan to begin construction. The airport opened for business on September 7, 1947, with Russell McDonald serving as chief flight instructor, head mechanic, and general manager. Over the years, the airport underwent improvements, including runway extensions and the addition of more aircraft to the flight school. In 1992, the runway was extended to 6,900 feet, allowing it to accommodate most corporate jet aircraft. Today, the airport features 54 hangars and over 100 planes.
While Russ McDonald Field serves smaller aircraft, travellers to Utah can also arrive at the state's major international airport, Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). This airport offers convenient transportation options, including the TRAX light rail, and is located just five miles northwest of downtown Salt Lake City.

St. George Municipal Airport
Bonanza Air Lines initially flew Douglas DC-3s to Salt Lake City and Phoenix, via Cedar City, Provo, and Prescott. However, by 1962, Bonanza had upgraded to larger Fairchild F-27 turboprops, which were deemed too large for the old airfield. As a result, Bonanza Air Lines ceased its service to St. George, opting to serve Cedar City instead.
SkyWest Airlines then began servicing the airport, introducing Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner propjets and Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia propjets. In 2016, American Eagle, operated by SkyWest Airlines, started flying between St. George and Phoenix using CRJ 200 regional jets. Allegiant Air also announced flights from St. George to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in 2018, becoming the first mainline jet service to St. George. However, Allegiant Air later suspended all flights to St. George Regional Airport.
The airport has also faced some challenges, including soil issues and runway repairs. In May 2019, the airport was closed for reconstruction of its lone runway due to sealed cracks caused by expansive clay. The city has also requested funding from the state for the first time to support airport projects, including the construction of an air traffic control tower. Despite these challenges, the airport has received approvals and support from the FAA, including grants totaling around $123 million for the new airport, which opened in 2011.

Heber Valley Airport (KHCR) is located 1 mile south of Heber City, Utah, and is the closest airport to Park City, Deer Valley, and the Sundance Resort, which are all a 20-minute drive away. The airport is also known as Russ McDonald Field.
The airport is in a beautiful setting in Heber Valley. It is a small airport, with aircraft maintenance, avionics, and FBO services provided by OK3 AIR. Heber Valley Airport has been the subject of a lawsuit between Heber City and OK3 AIR, which was settled in June 2023.
