The airport was founded in 1927 and was known as Manchester Airport until 18 April 2006, when it added "Boston Regional" to advertise its proximity to Boston, about 50 miles (80 km) away. The airport's first passenger terminal opened in 1937, serving as Manchester's aviation "front door" until it was replaced by the Ammon Terminal in 1961.
