Charlotte Douglas International Airport
The airport was established in 1935 as Charlotte Municipal Airport. In 1941, the United States Army Air Forces took control of the airport and established Charlotte Air Base, which was soon renamed Morris Field after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The facility was returned to the City of Charlotte in 1946, and in 1954, a new 70,000-square-foot (6,500 m2) passenger terminal opened. The airport was renamed Douglas Municipal Airport in honour of former Charlotte Mayor Ben Elbert Douglas Sr., who had overseen the airport's opening two decades prior.
In 1979, Piedmont Airlines chose Charlotte as the hub for its expanding network, leading to the construction of a new 325,000-square-foot (30,200 m2) passenger terminal designed by Odell Associates, which opened in 1982. Along with this, the airport was renamed Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Concourses A, B, and C were built or expanded between 1984 and 1987 to accommodate future growth. The old terminal site was converted into a cargo centre, and additional expansions took place in the following years, including the opening of Concourse D in 1990 and further expansion of the central terminal building in 1991.

Concord-Padgett Regional Airport

Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport
The Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport (IXA) is a general aviation airport located at 700 Gregory Farm Road Halifax, NC 27839, just 5 minutes from Interstate 95. The airport consists of a 5,500-foot lighted runway, a parallel taxiway, modern terminal facilities, T-Hangars, 24-hour fuel services, and corporate hangar facilities. The airport opened in May 2009 and has been described as "a literally awesome place" by a pilot who visited in May 2009. The same pilot also noted that the runway is not visible until final approach, but the Wright Memorial can be easily seen from about 300 yards east of the runway.
