Wuhan Tianhe International Airport has flights to international destinations such as New York, San Francisco, Rome, Moscow, Paris, Dubai, Sydney, and many more.
The airport has three terminals, with only one currently in service: Terminal 3 (T3). Terminal 2, which handled only domestic airlines, was closed in mid-2017 for upgrade construction, and it reopened on 15 April 2024. The International Terminal was opened in December 2010 and all international flights and flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan operated at the International Terminal from 2010 to 2017.
The airport is connected to downtown Hankou via two tolled expressways: the S18 Wuhan Airport Expressway and the S19 Wuhan Airport 2nd Expressway. There is also a limited bus service between the airport and several bus stops in the urban area of Wuhan. Additionally, the Wuhan–Xiaogan intercity railway, which opened in December 2016, serves Wuhan Tianhe Airport.
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport was built to replace the old Wangjiadun Airport and the larger, international Nanhu Airport, which was too small to handle the increasing number of passengers. Construction of the airport began in December 1989 and it officially opened on 15 April 1995.
