Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) recommends that passengers follow each airline's guidelines on when to arrive at the airport before a scheduled flight. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) advises passengers to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. The TSA security checkpoint is open daily from 3:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and urges passengers to go to the security checkpoint after checking in.
- Check-in: All airline and baggage check-in counters are located on the first level of the airport. After entering through the main entrance (Door 3), you will find yourself in the grand hall, with check-in counters for various airlines to your left and right. The farthest counter is less than 353 feet from the main entrance.
- Proceed to Security: After completing the check-in process, return to the grand hall and locate the escalators leading up to the security checkpoint on the second level of the airport.
- Security Screening: At the security checkpoint, you will undergo screening by the TSA, which may include the use of advanced technology, such as computed tomography (CT) scanners, for efficient and thorough inspections. To ensure a smooth process, it is important to follow the TSA's guidelines on prohibited items. Common prohibited items include liquids, gels, and aerosols exceeding 3.4 ounces (100 ml). These items must be placed in checked baggage or follow the 3-1-1 bag rule if carried in your carry-on luggage.
- TSA PreCheck: Syracuse Hancock International Airport offers the TSA PreCheck program, which allows enrolled travellers to expedite their security screening. With PreCheck, travellers can keep their shoes, jackets, belts, and electronics in their carry-on bags, making the security process quicker and more convenient.
- Post-Security: After completing the security screening, you will have access to the departure concourses. For example, Concourse B is located to the left, serving United and Delta gates. Restrooms and other amenities are available near the concourses.
- Exit Portals: Gates in the concourses lead to exit portals, which serve as the boundary between the secure and public sides of the airport. The maximum distance from the aircraft to these exit portals is 521 to 578 feet. Restrooms are conveniently located near the exit portals.
- Baggage Claim: After passing through the exit portals, you will reach Terminal A or Terminal B, depending on your arrival area. The baggage claim area is located one level below, on the first level of the airport. If you require a taxi, the lineup area is conveniently located outside the Terminal A baggage claim, no more than 84 feet away.
