The cost of constructing this new runway is projected at $768 million, with the acquisition of old Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. cane land being an essential first step.
To facilitate the reconstruction of Runway 2-20, a temporary runway parallel to it will be constructed to allow the airport to remain operational during the construction period. The main runway's reconstruction is expected to cost around $104.3 million and could last up to 16 weeks. During this time, an existing apron taxiway east of the main runway will serve as a temporary runway.
