Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, a commercial and military-use airport in Savannah, Georgia, first opened in 1929 as Savannah Municipal Airport. Air Canada is Canada's largest full-service airline and the largest provider of scheduled passenger services in the Canadian market, serving over 38 million passengers annually. On December 7, 2016, Air Canada announced that it would begin seasonal service to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from Toronto Pearson International Airport. The service was set to operate from May 1, 2017, to October 15, 2017, with nonstop flights six days a week.
The addition of Air Canada brought the total number of destinations serviced by Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to twenty-one, with forty-six daily departures. The nonstop flight departed Toronto at 12:35 PM, arriving in Savannah at 2:50 PM, and departed Savannah at 3:20 PM, arriving back in Toronto at 5:35 PM. This schedule allowed for convenient travel options for both local residents and those connecting to international flights.
