Vancouver's rapid transit rail, the Canada Line, connects Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to downtown Vancouver in under 30 minutes and to downtown Richmond in 18 minutes. The Canada Line station at YVR Airport is located between the International and Domestic Terminals. Tickets can be purchased from a machine outside the fare gates, or you can save time and go paperless by tapping your contactless debit or credit card at the fare gate. Interac® Debit, American Express®, Mastercard®, and Visa® are all accepted. Buying a ticket at the station

Contactless payment options
When travelling on the Canada Line from Vancouver Airport, there is an additional $5 YVR Airport AddFare, which is automatically deducted from your contactless card or stored value on a Compass Card. This is not applicable when travelling to the airport.
If you have a Compass Card or Ticket, you can transfer across all modes of transit, including SkyTrain, on a single fare for up to 90 minutes. Your card will automatically deduct the appropriate amount for your trip, including any necessary AddFare, which is the cost incurred when travelling outside of the initially paid zone(s).

Compass Card
To use the card, simply tap your card on the reader when entering buses, SkyTrain stations, SeaBus terminals, and West Coast Express stations. The fare will be automatically deducted from the stored value on your card. If you have a 1- or 2-Zone Monthly Pass on your Compass Card but need to travel through additional zones, you can load Stored Value onto your card in advance, and Compass will deduct the correct amount for your trip when you tap out.
For those eligible for concession fares, Concession Compass Cards can be purchased at the TransLink Customer Service Centre at Waterfront Station, online at compasscard.ca, or by telephone. This is automatically added when a user purchases a fare ticket.
There are three fare zones across Metro Vancouver. The number of zone boundaries crossed during a trip, as well as the time and day, determine the fare. All bus and HandyDART trips are a 1-Zone fare at all times. SkyTrain requires a 1, 2, or 3-Zone fare, depending on the time and day, and the number of zone boundaries crossed during the trip. SeaBus requires a 1 or 2-Zone fare, depending on the time and day. All trips across the system starting after 6:30 pm on weekdays and all travel on weekends and statutory holidays are 1-Zone fares.
If you have a Compass Card, Compass Ticket, contactless credit card, or Interac Debit and use Tap to Pay, you can transfer across bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and HandyDART on a single fare for up to 90 minutes. This begins when you first tap your card or ticket to enter a fare-paid zone. Fares paid with cash on buses cannot be transferred to other modes.
If you've purchased a one- or two-zone Compass Ticket and need to travel into additional zones, you must upgrade your ticket with an add fare at a Compass Vending Machine (CVM) before crossing into another zone. You can also upgrade your 1-zone ticket to a 2- or 3-zone ticket at the machines.

AddFare
The YVR Airport AddFare is a $5 surcharge levied by TransLink on eastbound trips that start at YVR Airport, Sea Island Centre, or Templeton, and end at any station from Bridgeport onwards. This charge is collected by TransLink to help cover the cost of running SkyTrain's Canada Line and is not received by the Vancouver Airport Authority. The YVR AddFare is added to single-use tickets and DayPasses purchased from the three Sea Island stations. It also applies to Stored Value single-trip fares on the Compass Card and Tap to Pay fares using a contactless credit or debit card.
