Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) has CLEAR security lanes available across all its terminals. CLEAR is a dedicated lane that allows travellers to get to their gates faster.

CLEAR uses biometrics to confirm the identity of its members, removing the need for traditional identification documents. This touchless technology minimises unnecessary interaction between passengers and airport personnel.

CLEAR members can use the dedicated lane to verify their identity at CLEAR kiosks with facial recognition technology and fingerprint scanning. This is separate from Global Entry and TSA PreCheck, which are complementary services. TSA PreCheck and Global Entry expedite the physical screening process, meaning travellers don't need to remove laptops or liquids from their bags and can keep their belts and shoes on.

CLEAR Plus Members can also use the Ambassador Assist service, which guides members every step of the way through select airports.

CLEAR is available across all terminals

CLEAR uses touchless technology, which means that members do not need to hand over travel documents to agents during the security screening process. Instead, CLEAR uses an individual's unique biometrics to confirm their identity, removing the need for traditional identification documents.

CLEAR is also available at over 55 other locations in the US, including Austin–Bergstrom International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, among others.

Alternatively, users can sign up using the CLEAR mobile app, which requires a selfie.

CLEAR performs checks to verify a user's identity by confirming that the picture on their ID matches their selfie, assessing device fraud risk, and ensuring that their information does not appear on a sanctions list. With the user's consent, CLEAR may share these verification details with partners to streamline their services.

While CLEAR's use of biometrics offers convenience and faster entry at security checkpoints, there are also concerns about the risks associated with centralizing sensitive biometric data. Critics argue that a centralized database of biometric information can pose security and privacy risks, especially if compromised. Additionally, there are worries about the effectiveness of biometric technologies in identifying people of color, individuals with disabilities, or those whose gender identity may not align with official documents.

CLEAR is separate from TSA PreCheck and Global Entry

CLEAR, TSA PreCheck, and Global Entry are all services that aim to expedite different parts of the travel experience. CLEAR is a private company, while TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are government programs.

CLEAR speeds up the travel document check process for departing flights and uses biometrics for security clearances. It verifies your identity using your eyes and fingerprints. At the airport, you can go to a CLEAR-branded machine that scans your boarding pass and eyes or fingerprints. A CLEAR employee will then escort you to the front of the security line. However, you will still need to go through the regular TSA security process, including putting your bags through the X-ray machine and removing your laptop and shoes.

TSA PreCheck, on the other hand, is a U.S. government program run by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). It identifies travellers deemed low-risk by the TSA. Once approved, travellers can pass through expedited security screening at U.S. airports without removing their shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, or light jackets, making the security process more convenient and efficient.

Global Entry is another government program, but it is run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It provides expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travellers returning to the United States from international destinations. Members can enter the U.S. through automatic kiosks at select airports, bypassing the long lines at passport control.

While CLEAR, TSA PreCheck, and Global Entry all offer benefits to travellers, they are separate services. CLEAR Plus members do not need TSA PreCheck or Global Entry to enjoy the benefits of CLEAR. However, TSA PreCheck and Global Entry can be bundled together, as Global Entry members automatically receive TSA PreCheck benefits.
