To complete your application, you must provide fingerprints and documentation, including an original or certified copy of your identity/citizenship status documentation. If your name has changed, you must also provide a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or similar. If you are a US citizen, you can use a passport, enhanced driver's license, or permanent resident card, among other documents. If you are not a US citizen, you may still be eligible if you are a citizen of a partner country or hold a NEXUS, SENTRI, or Global Entry membership.
The application process also requires applicants to pay a non-refundable $85 fee to cover the cost of background checks. Most applicants will receive their Known Traveller Number (KTN) within 3-5 days, but some applications can take up to 60 days. This KTN must be entered into your airline reservation to receive a TSA PreCheck® indicator on your boarding pass.

To be eligible for TSA PreCheck®, you must be a US citizen, a US lawful permanent resident, or a citizen of a partner country enrolled in Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI. Canadian citizens who are NEXUS members are also eligible.
If you already have Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, or an active TWIC® or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an HME, you do not need to get TSA PreCheck.®. Global Entry members automatically receive TSA PreCheck® benefits as part of their membership.

A passport cannot be used as a List A document if it is expired. If it has expired within the past 12 months, it can be used as proof of citizenship (List B) but must be presented with at least one other List B document.
