NIK tests

The NIK System of Narcotics Identification is a means of rapidly screening and identifying substances suspected of being illegal drugs. It is the only international standard for field-testing suspicious substances and has been awarded the ISO 9002 seal of excellence for quality control. NIK Test Pouches/Kit Refill Pouches are made of heavy-duty, flexible plastic and contain pre-filled, hermetically sealed glass ampoules held together by a plastic harness, along with a drug loading device. The glass ampoules contain a pre-measured volume of the required chemicals to perform the test. To test an unknown substance, the user opens the pouch, places a small amount of the substance inside using the loading device, and then breaks the glass ampoules. The solution is agitated, and the user watches for a colour change. The resulting colour or colours are then compared to those printed on the pouch.

It is important to note that NIK Tests are for presumptive identification only and are intended for use by fully trained law enforcement professionals. A positive result on a NIK Test does not constitute a positive identification of an illegal substance.
