TSA PreCheck® is available at specific airports

The TSA PreCheck® program is available at select airports and offers expedited screening benefits for departing flights within the United States. This means that travellers can keep their shoes, belts, 3-1-1 compliant liquids, laptops, and light jackets on during screening.

While the TSA does not publicly provide a comprehensive list of participating airports, it confirms that the program is available at specific locations across the country. It is important to note that eligibility for TSA PreCheck® extends to US citizens, US lawful permanent residents, and citizens of partner countries enrolled in specific Trusted Traveler Programs.

Additionally, citizens of partner countries enrolled in Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI are eligible for TSA PreCheck®. Canadian citizens who are NEXUS members are also eligible. Eligible travellers can take advantage of TSA PreCheck® by entering their membership number (PASS ID) when booking reservations or by adding it to their frequent flyer profile with the airline.

It is worth noting that Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI members can utilise the airport Global Entry system and the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes when entering the US from Mexico and Canada. However, only NEXUS members can use the NEXUS lanes when entering Canada.

Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI members can enter their Known Traveler Number when booking

Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI are Trusted Traveler Programs by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that offer expedited screening benefits for flights departing from U.S. airports. Members of these programs can use the airport Global Entry system as well as the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes when entering the U.S. from Mexico and Canada.

If you are a member of any of these programs, you can enter your membership number (PASS ID) in the "Known Traveler Number" field when booking reservations. Alternatively, you can enter it into your frequent flyer profile with the airline. This enables the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Secure Flight System to verify that you are a legitimate CBP Trusted Traveler and eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck®.

To find your Trusted Traveler member number, log in to your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account. Your membership number will be listed at the bottom of the page. You can also find your member number on the back of your Trusted Traveler card or your approval letter.

It is important to note that the NEXUS card is only recognized by the Global Entry processing technology at Canadian Preclearance locations. When using Global Entry at these locations, you can use your NEXUS card, passport, or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident card. At all other ports of entry, you must use your passport or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident card.

SENTRI costs $120 for adults

The SENTRI membership fee is $120 per person. If approved, membership lasts five years. SENTRI is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that provides expedited entry for travellers arriving in the United States from Mexico and Canada by vehicle. While the program is geared towards travellers who frequently travel between Mexico and the United States, SENTRI cardholders can also use Global Entry kiosks and receive TSA PreCheck benefits.

The $120 SENTRI fee is non-refundable and applies to each individual traveller. For families or groups travelling together by car, every passenger must have their own SENTRI pass. There is also an additional fee of $42 for each vehicle beyond the first registered under a single SENTRI membership.

SENTRI members can take advantage of expedited security screening through the TSA PreCheck program when flying within the United States. This benefit is also extended to Global Entry and NEXUS members. However, it's important to note that the TSA PreCheck program only applies to domestic travel within the U.S. For international travellers entering the United States, Global Entry provides expedited U.S. customs screening at over 50 U.S. airports.

While the cost of the SENTRI program is $120, it's worth noting that there are currently no credit cards that cover this fee. In comparison, the cost of Global Entry is also $120, and several credit cards cover this expense. Additionally, Global Entry members can use the SENTRI lanes when entering the United States from Mexico or Canada. SENTRI is limited to southern US border cities

SENTRI is limited to southern U.S. border cities as it is specifically intended for those who frequently cross the U.S.-Mexico land border by car. Enrollment centres for SENTRI are found exclusively in cities close to the U.S.-Mexico border, including Phoenix, Tucson, Douglas, Nogales, and San Luis in Arizona; El Paso, Hidalgo, Brownsville, and Laredo in Texas; and Calexico and San Diego in California.

The SENTRI pass is most useful for individuals who live near the southern border and frequently travel to Mexico by car. This is because the primary benefit of SENTRI membership is expedited border processing when entering the U.S. by land or sea. Once approved, members are issued a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card, which identifies their status in the CBP database when arriving at U.S. land and sea ports of entry. SENTRI members have access to dedicated lanes into the United States.

While SENTRI is limited to southern U.S. border cities, its benefits extend beyond land and sea border crossings. SENTRI members can use their Customs and Border Protection ID number or PASS ID/KTN (Known Traveler Number) from their SENTRI card to access TSA PreCheck on all participating airlines. TSA PreCheck provides expedited security screening for flights departing from U.S. airports.
